INDEPENDENCE DAY
Happy 228th birthday to the United States! I am happy to be back on U.S. soil once again, having arrived back home at 7:30pm last night. The 4th is one of the few holidays that I refuse to travel through. I'll go someplace for Labor Day or Christmas, but I prefer to be at home to celebrate our nation's birthday. Maybe it's just because I've always done it that way. I'm willing to admit it. Unfortunately I will not be getting much sleep tonite, as our neighborhood kids like to blow up endless strings of Black Cats and stay up late shooting Roman Candles at each other.
The Berlin trip was an incredible experience. The city itself totally blew me away; I feel like I could live there permantently, if I could find a really cheap apartment and get a work visa. The English Camp went extremely well. The organizers of the Camp were very impressed with how well our group worked with the kids and with each other. Also, we encountered no problems of any kind during actual travelling. This is encouraging to me, and it is most certainly an answer to the many prayers that were offered up on our behalf. Truly our God is a most wonderful, gracious, and merciful God.
Congratulations to Greece on winning the Europemaster 2004 football tournament in a 0-1 match over host Portugal. The game was a matchup of two unlikely underdogs, with Greece entering the tournament as an 80-1 outsider. I was personally rooting for Portugal. I believe they had more difficult quarterfinal matches, including a stunner against England which they won 6-5 after a game-ending shootout. That kind of football will make even the most ignorant of American soccer-haters sit on the edge of their chair and chant "Olé! Olé! Olé!".
