One Thing Needful

I spent this weekend over on the east side of the state (congratulations Katie on graduating high school!). A good time was had by all, and my van did not explode or blow out a tire (which is especially nice because I don't have a spare at the moment). I had the opportunity to attend services at the Southfield R.P. church, which was very encouraging. In the morning Rev. Wise preached on Luke 10:38-42, which records one of the times Lord Jesus talks about the one thing needful in this life. That being the Word of God.

I think it's really the solution to the many contentment issues we suffer from here in the U.S.A. The "gotta have more stuff" mentality that we're all so familiar with comes from forgetting what is important to have and what is not. The important stuff is the message of salvation found in the Gospel, and the wisdom and comfort found in the Word of God. Lord Jesus says in Luke that what we gain from God's Word shall not be taken away from us. This is something that cannot be said for stuff. Stuff is quite easily removed from us, that's why stuff should be low on our list-o-importance. Our beauty fades with age, and even knowledge, education, and memories can be taken away from us by disease or injury. But nothing can touch our souls; God has promised us that. So, our most basic desire should be the feeding and edifying of them.

On a more personal note, it is now officially buttcrack hot in my room.
